Our History
In 1935 Mr. Walter Jensen, a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, founded Children’s Bible Mission (CBM) for the purpose of reaching boys and girls in the public schools with the gospel. His method was to go into the public schools and teach God’s Word, motivating the children to learn to memorize Scripture by offering as an incentive the opportunity to attend a Christian summer camp. Today, Children’s Bible Ministries has regional affiliates in nine states, includingOklahoma. Our national office is located in the Tuckaleechee Retreat Center inTownsend, TN.
Our Method
Our primary method of reaching boys and girls for Christ is what’s known as “Released Time.” This ministry, which began in 1914, is a nationally-recognized program that allows students with written parental permission to be “released” from school for a specified period of time, either monthly or weekly, to participate in an off- campus, non-denominational Bible class. During these classes there is singing, Scripture memorization, and a Bible lesson by which children are taught the wonderful truths of God’s Word by CBM workers.
How You Can Help
Pray: For staff, teachers, helpers, students, passage of a Released Time bill by the state legislature, additional classes, provision of funding.
Give: Toward support of CBM staff, new curriculum, insurance, supplies, Bibles for students, MailBox club materials.
Go: Assist in helping start new RT classes, teaching, classroom volunteers (transportation; record-keeping, help with snacks, games, etc.; help students with memory verses; pray for and with students; provide counseling and follow-up).
