Kenya Ministry

Dear Family and Friends,

Few experiences have had a more profound impact on my life than my March trip to Mfangano Island, Lake Victoria, Kenya.  Through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and the power of His Spirit, our team had the privilege of seeing more than 1,200 lives transformed – men and women, boys and girls, teachers and students.  Amid the poverty and deprivation of this third-world land, spiritual riches were poured out and eagerly received – love, joy, peace, contentment, hope and, best of all, abundant life through Jesus Christ.

For the past few weeks I have been praying about the possibility of returning to Kenya with Bobby Johnson of Interlocking Ministries to continue the work of evangelism and discipleship there.  This is the best time of the year for me to go so as not to have to take time off from my other job as a school bus driver.  When I learned that Bobby would be going back in June, I prayed that God would direct me in discerning and  doing His will.  The length of this trip is double that of the March trip, with approximately $4,000.00 needed for travel and living expenses.

I contacted my supporters, asking them to join me in praying for God’s direction and provision.  I’m excited to report He has richly blessed — $2,850.00 of the $4,000.00 needed was given or pledged in only four days!  I’m so encouraged by these gifts, which are enough to cover air fare to and from Kenya.

And so after much prayer, and with the support and encouragement of my precious wife, I believe the Lord’s desire is for me to be part of the CBM – Interlocking Ministries team once again in taking God’s Word to the people of Mfangano Island and Ogembo, Kenya, June 17 – July 13.  In addition to school ministry and open-air evangelism, Bobby and I, along with Andrew Hill, a college student from Bobby’s church, will be working with the local pastors in continuing the work that Bobby has begin in developing and implementing a support system that would enable the many widows on Mfangano to become self-supporting.  We will also be discussing plans to conduct another series of week-long children’s camps in December, including a new camp in the mainland village of Ngeri.  During our first week in Kenya, while Bobby and Andrew are ministering on Mfangano, I will be in Kisii and Ogembo (about 3 hrs. southeast of Lake Victoria) with Pastor Elijah Osiemo doing school ministry, evangelism, preaching and construction.  I had hoped to visit this area last March, but the scheduling didn’t work out.  So it’s an extra-special blessing not only to be able to return to Kenya this soon, but to spend extended time with these dear brethren in Ogembo Province.

Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us financially in helping supply the remaining $1,150.00 needed for the trip?  Your gift represents an investment in eternity, as God is doing a mighty work in Kenya, building His church and advancing His kingdom.  Adults and children alike are hungry for the life-giving gospel and, by God’s grace, are responding in large numbers, repenting of their sins and placing their faith in Jesus Christ.  This is why I’ve had such a burden to go back — to be where God is working and to be used of Him in the sowing and reaping of a great harvest!

If you’d like to make a gift, please make your check payable to:  CBM – Great Southwest, P.O. Box 1058, Edmond, OK  73083, and write “Kenya trip” on the memo line.  You can also donate online via PayPal by clicking the “Donate” link.

Thank you so much for praying and giving as the Lord leads.  You’re a great blessing and encouragement to Brenda and me!

To the Praise of His Glory,

                                                                                                                   Scott
